Japan Visa run

Teachers who would like to start teaching right away or are signing for another year in Korea with a new school will need to make the famous "Japan visa-run". It used to be able to be completed in just one day, but now it takes two days, both in Osaka and Fukuoka in Japan. Teachers should submit their visa application before 3:30pm of the day they arrive and their visa will be ready for pick-up by 10am~ 12noon (in Fukuoka Korean Consulate) and 1:30~ 2 pm (in Osaka Korean Consulate) of the following day.

What to check before you go to Japan

 - Visa Confirmation number (ex. SUBO 001001)

 - Where is your bus stop (for Incheon airport) and bus number

 - Your director's name, School address and phone number in English

 - One passport photo of yourself

 - Your passport with remaining validity of at least one year

 - Your airplane e-ticket and pre-arranged Hotel (print out your Hotel Boucher and bring it with you)

- Bring money (about 250,000KW or more and change all to Japan YEN at Incheon airport,

if any money left over after your Japan visa trip, you can change Japan Yen to Korean Won at Incheon airport again)

(Transportation fares, several meals, visa service fee: 5,400~6,000 yen and so on)

You can fill the visa application form and take it with you

- Make sure your air ticket includes the Incheon Airport tax. Keep 20,000 KRW on you just in case.

- Buy Japanese Yen at Incheon Airport before you depart for Japan. No one will accept KRW in Japan and its VERY HARD to exchange and you won't get a good exchange rate.

- Get to the airport as early as possible (at least 2 hours before your flight time) as lines at customs and security can be quite long.

- Always double-check your dates since Japan has MANY holidays and on holidays the Embassy is closed:

Fukuoka Trip

Take the subway from the airport to Tojin Machi station (9th stop from the airport right after Ohori Koen station).

From Tojin Machi station, go out exit one (1) which says Korean Consulate on it. Go straight out the exit towards the traffic light. Cross the intersection and turn (if you hit the river you've gone to far!). Go straight for about 10 minutes and you will arrive at the consulate which is a building with a Korean style roof and a Korean Flag (don't be fooled by the Chinese consulate). Most of the buildings in the area have maps.

You can submit your visa application at Fukuoka Korean Consulate within these hours (9am~ 11am and 13:30pm~ 15:30pm). You must come back on the next day morning and collect your passport with visa stamp (between 10am~ 12noon). They won't give it to you in the afternoon.

- You could go to Busan city and take ferri to Fukuola too

- You should pre-arrange your motel/hotel before you go there as it is very hard to get a room without your passport lately.

From Namba station, go straight out exit 25 until you reach the Holiday Inn Nankai Hotel. It's a 10 to 15 minute walk, or just a few minutes by taxi (expensive). The Korean consulate is right across from the hotel.

The Osaka Consulate will provide you visa around 2~3pm on the second day of Japan trip. As teachers are normally have 5pm return flight to Korea, you have to aware that you don't have much time to go back to Osaka airport. Please double-check the way back to Osaka airport from Korean Consulate on the second day morning.
